Summer’s Here!

Our 11th Annual Summer in the City Food Drive kicks off this weekend at St. Peter’s in Olney (they did a dress rehearsal last week, producing just under 15,000 cans.) Many thanks to Fr. Tom Kalita, who this weekend is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood and 30th anniversary of his pastorate of St. Peter’s. He has asked for canned food donations as gifts so if you’re in the neighborhood of 2800 Olney Sandy Springs Road this weekend, be a Saint and drop off a few cans of food. We have a special need for peanut butter and jelly and pasta sauce, all plastic containers, please. Or, if it’s more convenient, make a donation in Fr. Kalita’s name at jsmff.org

We will be visiting 20 churches, including St. Peter’s, Olney; St. Francis Assisi, Dermood; St. Jerome, Hyattsville; St. Mary’s, Barnesville; St. Paul, Damascus; St. Mary, Rockville; Our Lady of Mercy, Potomac; Holy Cross, Garrett Park; and Our Lady of Grace, St. Andrew Apostle, St. Bernadette, and St. John the Baptist, all in Silver Spring. Also, Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Church of the Annunciation, Our Lady of Victory, Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, St. Augustine, St. Ann, St. Stephen Martyr, and St. Thomas Apostle, all in the District of Columbia. All of these parishes embrace the Gospel of Matthew 25:36-41 like no other — they are the backbone and inspiration for all that we do.

A Capital Evening XI

John S. Mulholland Family Foundation is pleased to announce that our single fundraising event of the year, A Capital Evening XI, will be held at The Ritz-Carlton, Washington, on Friday, November 22, 2024. Silent Auction, cocktails, dinner and dancing begin at 6:00 PM. We will once again be serenaded by the fabulous Radio King Orchestra and pleased to be supported by a host of sponsors, including Caruso Florist, and made possible by our Underwriting Sponsors Sharon Briskman, and Marg and Steve Swink.

John S. Mulholland Family Foundation will be honored by the presence of Her Excellency, Geraldine Byrne Nason, Ambassador of Ireland to the United States.

A special room rate, for those who wish to take the elevator home after the Gala, and reduced valet parking rate are available to JSM guests.

You will want to be a part of what has been called “the best Gala in Washington each year” — it is elegant, sophisticated, short on speeches, long on music and great conversation. And the Ladies and Gentlemen of The Ritz-Carlton will ensure that every detail is delivered with their
legendary clockwork efficiency.

102,000 Cans collected during Lent.

Our 11th Annual Lenten Food Drive ended today with a record breaking 102,000 cans/dollars of food for the food insecure, working poor of Washington, who we are privileged to serve at 9 food pantries each month throughout the year.
Many thanks to Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Church of the Annunciation, Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, St. Ann’s Tenley Circle, St. Augustine, and St. Thomas Apostle, all in the District.

Also thanks to St. Peter’s, Olney; St. Paul, Damascus; Our Lady of Mercy, Potomac; Resurrection, Burtonsville; St. Jerome, Hyattsville; St. Mary’s, Rockville; and Our Lady of Grace, St. Bernadette, and St. Andrew the Apostle, all in Silver Spring.
Finally, we thank Archbishop Carroll, Washington; Elizabeth Seton, Bladensburg; and Academy of the Holy Cross, Kensington.
All of the parishes and high schools met and exceeded their goal and all our pantries are currently fully stocked. We are grateful to all of them for taking this journey of faith in action with us.

John S. Mulholland Hits the Road

We are so very pleased to introduce our brand new Ford cargo van, made possible by a grant from Marg and Steve Swink, Leslie and Steven Palder, Nancia and Giancarlo DAlimonte, and The W. O’Neil Foundation. As a specific, targeted grant, no donor dollars were used for the purchase, tax and title, or professional signage. Those of you who have followed us by any measure know this has been a longtime priority, now made possible through the incredible goodness and generosity of these special friends. HS1 got a huge first workout, with our largest Lenten Food Drive ever! #ActionsNotWords #ittakesavillage

JSMFF is proud to announce our partnership with Giant Food, Capital Area Food Bank, and Feeding America

John S. Mulholland Family Foundation is proud to announce our partnership with Giant Food, Capital Area Food Bank, and Feeding America. Beginning this week, JSM will be part of the Retail Rescue Program with the Giant Food Brentwood, located just 5 minutes from the John S. Mulholland Food Pantry in Brookland.
Each week, we will pick up and distribute food items that have reached their “sell by” date and would otherwise be discarded. As we all know, there’s a big difference in sell by date and the true life of the product. This program allows us to receive these items and distribute them to folks in great need in an expedient fashion. Now serving 9 food pantries in Washington, JSM is able to distribute these items quickly, avoiding waste and ensuring that the food insecure of our community are able to enjoy them.
We are excited to be working with Robert Winter and his team at Giant Brentwood. #ittakesavillage
